How do I dial mobiles vs landlines in Mexico

Mexico uses +52 and (since 3 August 2019) a uniform 10-digit dialing plan for both landlines and mobile phones: you dial area code + local number for every call within Mexico, and the old prefixes like 01 (national long-distance) and 044/045 (calling mobiles) were removed. In other words, you don’t “dial differently” for mobiles vs landlines anymore inside Mexico—both use the same 10-digit format.

For international calling, the rule is also straightforward: from abroad you dial your exit code (e.g., 011 from the U.S./Canada or 00 from most of Europe), then 52, then the full 10-digit Mexican number (including the area code). A key gotcha: older instructions used to say to dial an extra “1” after 52 when calling Mexican mobiles from abroad, but that requirement was removed—now it’s simply +52 + 10 digits for both mobiles and landlines. If you’re storing numbers on your site, publish them in E.164 format like +525512345678 to avoid any confusion with legacy prefixes.

What are the emergency numbers in Mexico

911 is the nationwide emergency number (police / fire / medical). For road assistance on federal highways, 078 (Green Angels) is commonly published; 089 is used for anonymous reporting in many sources.

Dialing tip: If you find an old number written like 044 55 xxxx xxxx or 01 33 xxxx xxxx, remove the prefix and just dial the 10 digits.

What are the mobile operators in Mexico

Mexico does not have “mobile-operator dialing prefixes” in the way many countries do. Mobiles and landlines both use geographic area codes, and after the 2019 reform you dial +52 + (area code) + local number the same way for both.
Mobile Operator Note
Telcel (América Móvil)
AT&T México
Movistar (Telefónica)
Movistar has operated as an MVNO using AT&T’s network and has recently announced an exit process from Mexico (market/ownership may transition)
