How do I dial mobiles vs landlines in Nepal

Nepal’s country calling code is +977. To call Nepal from abroad, dial your international exit code (or press +), then 977, then the Nepali number. Landlines use geographic STD/area codes (Kathmandu Valley uses 1), while mobile numbers typically start with 97 or 98 (e.g., 98XXXXXXXX). Nepal’s international dialing prefix (to call out of Nepal) is commonly 00.

For landlines, you’ll often see domestic formats written with a leading 0 before the city/STD code (for example, Kathmandu is commonly written 01… domestically). For international dialing, you generally omit that domestic 0 and dial the country code instead (so 01… → +977 1 …). For mobiles, domestic numbers are commonly written as 98XXXXXXXX / 97XXXXXXXX; from abroad you dial them as +977 98XXXXXXXX or +977 97XXXXXXXX. Because fixed-line numbers are typically 8 digits total (STD code + subscriber) and mobile numbers are often 10 digits total, saving contacts in +977 format is the easiest way to avoid digit-length and “leading 0” mistakes.

What are the emergency numbers in Nepal

Nepal commonly uses 100 (Police), 101 (Fire), 102 (Ambulance), 103 (Traffic), and 104 (Missing Child Response).

What are the city and area codes in Nepal

Dialing tip: In Nepal, city/STD codes are often shown domestically with a leading 0 (e.g., 01 Kathmandu, 061 Pokhara). When dialing from outside Nepal, drop that 0 and use +977 (e.g., 01 → +977 1, 061 → +977 61).
