How do I dial mobiles vs landlines in Taiwan

Taiwan’s country calling code is +886. For most domestic calls in Taiwan, you’ll see numbers written with a leading 0 (the trunk/long-distance prefix), followed by either a geographic area code for landlines (e.g., 02 for Taipei) or 09X for mobiles. If you’re calling a Taiwan landline from within Taiwan, you typically dial 0 + area code + local number (for example 02 XXXX XXXX for Taipei). When calling within the same area code, the area code can often be omitted and you may dial just the local number, but the “safe” habit—especially when you’re unsure—is to dial the full national form including the 0 + area code. 

From outside Taiwan, dial +886 and then the Taiwan number without the leading 0. So a Taipei landline written as 02 XXXX XXXX becomes +886 2 XXXX XXXX. For mobile numbers, Taiwan mobiles generally start with 09X domestically (10 digits total), and internationally you drop the 0 and dial them as +886 9X XXX XXXX (for example 0935 XXX XXX → +886 935 XXX XXX). If you’re calling internationally from inside Taiwan using carrier selection, Taiwan’s numbering references list multiple international prefixes (e.g., 002/005/006/007/009), but using + on a mobile is usually the simplest.
